Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is the remains of microscopic one-celled plants (phytoplankton) called diatoms that lived in the oceans and lakes that once covered  parts of the world thousands of years ago.  The Diatomaceous Earth is processed many different ways for different industries. There is the Pool grade that is heated and chemically treated and will poison animals and people.

The Diatomaceous Earth that is offered here is of the highest quality food grade, which is EPA approved against indoor and outdoor crawling insects; FDA approved for internal and external use;  EPA approved for mixing with grain to control pests; exempted from tolerance requirements as an inert, inactive ingredient in chemical pesticides; USDA approved as an anti-caking agent for animal feed.

. The governments of the United States and Canada recognize that Diatomaceous Earth  is safe to use in animal foods. Diatomaceous Earth prevents "clumping" of feed particles by keeping them separate, so the surface area of feed exposed to the digestive processes - both bacterial and enzymatic - is increased and therefore more feed is actually digested and utilized. Diatomaceous Earth contains a small amount of 15 trace minerals. Thousands of animal owners and livestock breeders have discovered that adding Diatomaceous Earth to their animals' rations has produced a number of incredible benefits.

I have been passionate about finding safe and inexpensive ways to keep all insects away for 20 years. I have tried everything and heard and researched more things that I care to remember.  Several customers recommended I try Diatomaceous Earth  for the yard, around the house and for internal parasites and worms -amongst other things. A wonderful customer named Pat sent me some many years ago and said use it as a de-wormer for your horses, dogs, and for all animals. (Someone brought over a horse with bad worms and it spread quickly to the other animals-it was a nightmare). She said to put it in the food and that within 24 hours the worms would start to die and be pooped out. It was true. All the animals were worm free quickly and cheaply. The horse was worm free within 2-3 days, gained weight quickly and had more energy and a shiny coat. I have spent many years experimenting with Diatomaceous Earth and been astonished with the success. The Diatomaceous Earth we are carrying is of the highest quality food grade. Diatomaceous Earth has been used for many years and there is a great deal of research on it. Diatomaceous Earth can be used as a feed additive for farm animals, dogs, cat, birds, exotic animals, and people and can be used around home, barn, and grain.

Listed below are some of the benefits claimed by users:

For Pets and Farm Animals

Put on animals and in their food and around barns: put in a dish and let them eat it as they want

spray around chicken coops and barn

For People

For House

Great to remove and guard against roaches, ticks,  lice, fleas, chiggers, mosquitoes, flies

Grain and Feed Storage

"For at least two decades Food Grade Fossil Shell Flour Diatomaceous Earth DE has been used as a natural wormer for livestock without the inherent risks of powerful insecticides. Mixed with feed at a ratio of 2% of dry weight and fed for about 60 days to cover the full parasitic cycle, food grade fossil shell flour Diatomaceous Earth DE effectively rids animals of parasites while supplying a broad range of minerals from ancient sea beds. The health improvements observed in animals appear to be a result of three primary actions:

(1) Eliminating parasites reduces physiological stress and increases assimilation of nutrients from food. (2) DE is a rich source of minerals not abundantly available in today's feed crops.

(3)Diatomaceous Earth DE may bind to toxic metal build-up and help to rid it from the body."

Given to cows, milk production increased 25%. Mixed with the feed of sheep, 8-year-old ewes were soon springing around like young lambs. Hogs stopped chewing their wood feeding troughs. Tumors and cysts disappeared, and flies in the farmyard were practically eliminated."

Under magnification, Diatomaceous Earth looks like sharp honeycombs that  destroys all parasites that they come in contact with without harming people, animals, or anything with less than 6 legs.

Diatomaceous earth can be spread on barn floors, chicken coops, horse stalls, an the lawn and patio to remove the insects. As the diatomaceous earth comes in contact with the insects, the sharp edges of the honeycomb shape lacerate the bugs waxy exoskeleton and then the powdery diatomaceous earth absorbs the body fluids causing death from dehydration. . Some scientists believe that diatomaceous earth is a de-ionizer or de-energizer of worms or parasites.

Food grade diatomaceous earth must be fed long enough to catch all newly hatching eggs or cycling of the worms through the lungs and back to the stomach. A minimum of 60 days is suggested by many, 90 days is advised for lungworms.

Food grade diatomaceous earth works in a purely physical/mechanical manner, not "chemical" and thus has no chemical toxicity. Best yet, parasites don’t build up a tolerance/immunity to its chemical reaction, so rotation of wormers is unnecessary.   Also, Diatomaceous Earth has an unlimited shelf life provided you keep it dry.

A Bison rancher in Alberta conducted fecal test samples to check for parasites after using diatomaceous earth for several weeks. His tests came out negative. Neither he nor his vet believed it, so they took more samples from different Bison, from different herds, which had been fed diatomaceous earth - negative. Not only did he solve his parasite problem with a non-toxic, natural product, but he found that the coats and overall appearance of his bison had improved. Another benefit is that some diatomaceous earth remains in the manure, preventing the eggs of flies and parasites from hatching out, thereby, breaking the cycle of re-infestation."

Sirs:
Our animal pathologist has examined the vital organs and intestinal components submitted, both macroscopically and microscopically, and has found no visible evidence of organ abnormalities.
These components consisted of brain, thyroid, rib section, lung, heart, liver, true stomach, small intestine section, large intestine section, pancreas, kidney, bladder, and forestomach. These organs were submitted under affidavit as being from a slaughtered dairy cow having free choice access to fossil shell flour for approximately five years.

*CLINICAL OBSERVATIONS OF FEEDING CODEX FOOD GRADE DIATOMACEOUS EARTH TO DOGS, O.C. Collins, DVM, Midland Animal Clinic And Hospital, Midland, TX: “In clinical observations of feeding dogs over 35 lbs. 1 tbsp./day and under 35 lbs. 1 tsp./day of DE, within seven days all ova disappeared from stools. DE controlled Ascardis (Toxacara canids), Hookworms (Anclyostoma caninum), and Whipworms (Trichuris vulipis).”

Diatomaceous Earth not only works for external and internal bugs and paracites for animals but food grade Diatomaceous Earth also works for people. The Center for Disease Control lists worm parasites as #1 health risk. There have been numerous studies that show that nearly 85% of Americans have parasites in their bodies. The parasites may be found in uncooked foods, contaminated soil, vegetables, meat, feces, or the worm eggs may be in the wind.

Some of the worm types are

-Roundworms - also called Protozoa, flukes - may cause trichinosis leading to muscle damage and complications of the cardio and neuro systems.

-hookworms - contagious intestinal parasites with the shape of an earthworm but of smaller size  - may cause the soles of the feet to itch, and possibly bloody spit from the mouth, fever, rash, and loss of appetite.

-Pinworms - appear as short white threads of 1/3 inch length or shorter and are the most prevalent worm problem for young children - may cause sever anal itching, insomnia and restlessness. These worms tend to migrate out through the anus at night to lay eggs.

- Tapeworms - are from one inch to thirty feet in length and may live in the body for up to 25 years  -may cause weight loss, abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea

Threadworms - may cause coughing, abdominal pain, diarrhea, gas, and itchy red abrasions on the anus.

"In her book “The Cure for All Cancers”, Dr. Hulda Clark implicates parasites as the root cause for most of the diseases inflicting the human species. As long as they remain in the intestines our immune system can deal with them. When they are allowed to escape the intestines they settle in the most vulnerable parts of our body. Dr. Clark states that cancer can be cured, not just treated and after years of study, she discovered that many cancer patients have a certain parasite in their bodies. She experienced clinical studies that after removing this parasite, the cancer stopped immediately, and the tissue returned to normal again."

      Feeding:

The requirements for farm animals, cats, dogs, birds are 2% of the dry weight of the food.

For large animals, Diatomaceous Earth  may also be offered in a bowl as "free choice" as long as the container is protected from the weather. You can make changes based on the weight and number of animals and on your own experience.. Diatomaceous Earth  is GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe by the FDA, so there is no harm of "overdose")

Human - 1  heaping teaspoon per day.

--Start with 1/2 a teaspoon and work up so your body does not get rid of all toxins so quickly
Child - 1 level teaspoon per day.
Large Dog (retriever) - 1 level teaspoon per day.
Small Dog (poodle) - 1/2 tsp per day.
Cat - 1/2 tsp per day.
Cow - 1/2 cup per day; Calf - 1/4 cup per day;

Horse- 1/2 cup per day

Start with a smaller dose and work up so that you do not de-tox the system as quickly (unless you need to de-tox the animal quickly) The body is cleaned out through the bowels.  Diatomaceous earth allows for internal cleaning of the body from parasites and their eggs. It does take 20 days for a worm to produce eggs so it is very important to continue to take Diatomaceous Earth for a minimum of 20 days and if a day is missed you start over. It is recommended that you feed it to animals for 60-90 days.
